SEM0044 - Garden in the Woods Master Plan
This workshop led by the Horticultural Director Mark Richardson will present the ins and outs of the master plan process undergone by New England Wild Flower Society and Andropogon Associates, of Philadelphia, in the development of a comprehensive master plan for Garden in the Woods, featuring its renowned native plant botanic garden in Framingham, Massachusetts. The project brings together the nation’s oldest plant conservation organization and the acclaimed landscape architecture firm that for nearly four decades has led the profession in ecological and sustainable design. The master plan will chart a future for the 45-acre property that will realize the full potential of the beautiful site, strengthen the garden displays, improve visitor services, and meet the challenges of a changing climate. This presentation will give participants a behind the scenes look at how it was done. Details about the survey work, stakeholder engagement, sustainability issues, impact on hydrology, addressing climate change, loss of hemlocks and invasives will be discussed. The workshop will be useful for professionals and stakeholders alike.
